What’s Hot?
  • The 3d animation was spectacular
  • The plot was culturally enhancing and educational
  • The theme of family, heritage and dreams was inspiring
  • The sound quality was great
  • Music choice was appropriate
  • The plot twists/ climax kept audience in suspense
  • Unpredictable story
  • Realistic and relatable
  • Was not boring, considering the historical cultural and religious undertone of the movie
  • Eye popping Colors, jaw dropping twists
  • Character development
  • real life lessons

What’s Not?
  • Cultural plot may be confusing for children, considering it is a movie about a day where dead ancestors are able to cross over into real time to see loved ones
  • The view of skeletons walking around with such a realistic edge was disturbing at first and may not be appropriate for little children.
  • The story may not be appropriate for certain children, being that there is murder, manipulation, and vengeance. The main character who is also a child, soon fights the brink of death as well as his great great-grandfather. The morbidity of the movie may not be the best choice if you are looking for a family fun night.

What is it?
A young boy, Miguel, mysteriously travels to the land of the dead, in an attempt to find freedom in
his dreams of becoming a musician. Generation after generation there has been a ban on music
in His family due to his great great-grandfather abandoning them. Though music has become
taboo for this close knit family it is music that keeps their love alive in the end. Miguel,
hungry to find someone who believes in him, soon discovers the truth to his family's past,
his love for music and how to mend what was once broken.

Story: 5
The story was full of life! No pun intended. Irony not implied. Though the animation was full of
death, life was found in death. Death was celebrated as another time zone rather than a
means to an end. The plot was very emotional and filled with the passion of pursuing one's
dreams and the costs that sometimes brings. It is important to note the lesson to honor
where you came from so that you know where you are going. There is also a need to highlight in
our differences there should be community. With a realistic approach to family and heritage as a
theme it is sure to bring families together even in their differences.

Audio / Sound: 5
Awesome!  Clear crisp sound quality ; the music chosen was culturally appropriate given the
movie.

Aesthetics: 5
Fantastic! 3d animation was flawless and the colors popped out from the screen!

Replay: 2
The film was only viewed once, it isn't the type of film i would watch over and over, though it
held my interest. Maybe if the songs were catchy, or if it wasn't so morbid i would watch it again.
Too much death for me.

Recommendation: 3
I would recommend this to adults and older children, possibly aged 10+, that would be able to
comprehend the display of emotionalism in the film as well as the theme, what they can learn from
the movie. I also chose this age group because death is something that can be explained to them
without the movie causing confusion if "the day of the dead" isn't a practice in my household belief
system. There are so many different beliefs, religions principles in this world it is easy for someone
who is not rooted in their family beliefs to become confused by this story-line with dead people living
in an alternate land as skeletons... There is a lot of good in the film that all people should be able to
pick up on- follow your dreams, never give up, the importance of family, celebrate each others
differences, acceptance etc.

Thoughts
Overall I enjoyed this movie and would recommend to specific age groups.
